The John Duval ‘Plexus’ is a masterfully crafted Shiraz Grenache Mourvèdre (SGM) blend, showcasing the best of the Barossa Valley’s old-vine fruit. With a focus on balance, elegance, and complexity, this wine brings together the power of Shiraz, the brightness of Grenache, and the structure of Mourvèdre to create a truly captivating expression of the region.
Tasting Notes:
Color: Deep crimson red with purple hues.
Aroma: Intense aromas of dark berries, red currant, and ripe plum, intertwined with hints of spice, lavender, and subtle oak influence. Notes of earthy undertones, pepper, and dried herbs add further complexity.
Palate: Medium to full-bodied with a silky, layered texture. Flavors of blackberry, raspberry, and dark cherry are complemented by white pepper, anise, and savory spice. Fine tannins and well-integrated French oak lead to a long, elegant finish with lingering notes of red fruits and dried herbs.
Winemaking & Vineyard:
The Shiraz Grenache Mourvèdre blend is sourced from low-yielding vineyards across the Barossa Valley, ensuring concentration and complexity. Each variety is fermented separately in small open-top fermenters before being matured for 14 months in French oak barrels (only 10% new), allowing the fruit purity to shine while adding structure and depth.
Food Pairing:
The John Duval ‘Plexus’ SGM pairs beautifully with:
Chargrilled lamb chops with rosemary and garlic
Duck confit with cherry reduction
Smoky barbecued meats and slow-cooked brisket
Hard cheeses such as manchego or aged gouda
Cellaring Potential:
With its refined structure and balance, Plexus SGM can be enjoyed now for its vibrant fruit flavors or cellared for 8–12 years, developing greater complexity over time.
